With the Fourth of July weekend upon us, I'm bringing back an old favorite quiz about TV shows that search for America's best. In recent years, we've turned to television to find some of our hottest singers, greatest inventors, young talents, and even cute dogs. In honor of Independence Day, this quiz is all about reality shows with "America" or "American" in the name. How well do you know this intersection of entertainment and national pride? Good luck!/p

We're deep into Summer reading season, and that makes me even more excited about my selection for July: a href="http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Needed-About-Being-Learned/dp/1439102651/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8amp;s=booksamp;qid=1246565408amp;sr=8-1" target="_blank"Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume/a. /p
pSee, Judy Blume is the epitome of Summer reading for me. In my pre-teen years, I spent long Summer afternoons by the pool poring over bDeenie/b or bSuperfudge/b or whichever Blume classic I'd grabbed from the library most recently. I still have my well-loved paperback copies of bJust as Long as We're Together/b and bStarring Sally J. Freedman as Herself/b, the ones I read the most - often finishing one and immediately starting the other. /p
pSo I was delighted to stumble upon this essay collection, which features women writers including Meg Cabot and Megan McCafferty reminiscing about their own experiences reading Blume and the (sometimes shocking) lessons learned from her books. (One essay is titled "Do Adults Really Do That? Does iJudy Blume/i Really Do That?")/p
pFor those of you new to my book club format, here's how it works: Every week I'll suggest chapters to complete by the next post (which, in this case, will go up every Friday in July). In these weekly posts, I'll posit a few discussion-provoking questions for you to respond to in the comments section. /p
pTo read more about this month's book and get your first assignment, just read more. /p
pA synopsis of this book a href="http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Needed-About-Being-Learned/dp/1439102651/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8amp;s=booksamp;qid=1246565408amp;sr=8-1" target="_blank"reads/a:/p
blockquotep"I remember how painful it was to be invisible to those other kids. And I think of Judy Blume, whose . . . name will always mean friendship to me," writes Berta Platas. "She allowed me to save myself," says Meg Cabot. In stories contributed by many well-known female writers, this anthology pays homage to the "guru" of adolescent experience. Many nostalgic selections speak about the crucial comfort that a Blume novel brought during an author's teens, soothing worries about body image, parental divorce, friendship scuffles, sex, and masturbation. Also striking are the many essays about "Judy Blume moments" in adult life. For one author, rereading bForever/b helped her reenter the dating world as a single thirtysomething. Another contributor remembers the teenage reassurance she'd found in bAre You There God? It's Me Margaret/b, when, after childbirth and breast-feeding, she once again suffered from "boob drama." Funny, poignant, honest, and reverential, these stories will resonate strongly with the legions of readers who, like the authors, are grateful and lifelong Blume devotees./p/blockquote
pbThe first assignment/b: Read the first five essays. (Stop before "Cry, Linda, Cry.") We'll discuss this section next Friday, July 10. /p

The Toronto woman who allegedly threw a glass of drinking water at actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been released on bail. Aretha Wilson was arrested on Monday by the Toronto Police for the accused assaulting of DiCaprio. Wilson allegedly hit DiCaprio back in 2005 during an L.A party at Rick Salomons house. While seeking medical attention the star received seventeen stitches to his neck and ear! Soon after, Wilson fled back to Canada so she wouldn’t have to face charges…
In 2006, Wilson was convicted for assaulting her then boyfriend Wyatt Cote with a broken glass before he jumped to his death from a high-rise apartment building.
The former 39yr old model was granted bail pending an extradition hearing. Wilson conditions include surrendering her passport and checking in with police regularly. Wilson will likely be extradited and sent back to California to be sentenced for assault with a deadly weapon.
