Buzz In: What’s Your Favorite Soothing Music?
May 31st

Music is a very personal thing. What’s pleasing to the ears of one person can be nails on a chalkboard to another. Even iPod playlists are like snowflakes: no two alike. But I find that people can be most varied when it comes to what they listen to when they need to be soothed.
The very definition of the word “soothe” is “to tranquilize or calm.” Think auditory Xanax. A quick Amazon search of “soothing music” leads to mostly instrumental compilations meant to lull you to sleep. For me, these Enya-eque tunes are more boring than calming.
So, what mellows me? Well, a little Sade goes a long way. Her voice is sensually raspy, and I instantly get transported to whatever perfect-love scenario she’s currently crooning about. The Beatles have a similar calming effect. It probably has something to do with growing up listening to their albums, back when I had no adult responsibilities. I asked Bella this question and she says calms the ol’ nerves with The Sea and Cake.
What about you? What CD or artists do you listen to when you just want to kick back and relax?
Number Crunching: This Week’s TV Ratings
May 31st
- Clash of the cougars. Both Denise Richards’ and Dina Lohan’s reality shows (It’s Complicated and Living Lohan, respectively) premiered on E! this past Memorial Day. While the channel seems to be pleased with the results (both premiered stronger than the Keeping Up With the Kardashians debut) each drew in around one and a half million. The winner: Richards with 50,000 more viewers.
- Lost wins Thursday, but still loses a few. The season finale of Lost (which was awesome, by the way) was the number one show on Thursday night with 12.2 million viewers. This was down from last year’s finale by 1.7 million.
- Fox loses a few after American Idol, too. It’s hard to top the powerhouse that is American Idol, but Fox fared pretty well its first post-AI week. Hell’s Kitchen was number one in its time slot on Tuesday with 9.41 million viewers.
- So you think you can do better than last week. So You Think You Can Dance garnered more viewers on both Tuesday (9.3 million) and Wednesday( 9.26 million) than it did last week during its premiere, which only drew in 8.6 million. This week’s numbers are on par with last year.
Rewind: This Week’s Buzz
May 31st

- The Sex and the City movie has arrived! While I had warmish feelings about it myself, I know plenty of ladies who may spend their entire weekend at the theater. This week I asked about your hopes and fears for the movie and who your favorite SATC girl is.
- Remember that saying that came out of an episode of SATC a while back? Well now He’s Just Not That Into You is a movie that stars just about every charming actor ever.
- Also, times are good for Mr. Big, er, Chris Noth who landed a role opposite Renee Zellweger this week!
- In other casting news, rumors continue to swirl around who will play Hugh Hefner in his biopic, and Garbage singer Shirley Manson landed a regular spot on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
- I’m still mourning the end of American Idol  I know, move on already. But before I closed this chapter, I had to ask: Which season has been your favorite so far?
- Woo-hoo! I chose my Buzz Book Club selection for June: Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris. I’m excited to get reading!
- The MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday and I found some glaring omissions from the Best Kiss category.
- You should probably stop what you’re doing and check out the trailer for the new Coen Brothers’ movie Burn After Reading. It looks so good.
- I had so much fun at Sasquatch this year! Be sure to check out the video clip of my interview with Rainn Wilson (hilarious) and some of my interviews with the bands I saw live.

First Look: Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno
May 30th
Kevin Smith is not exactly known for good, clean fun and the trailer for his next film Zack & Miri Make a Porno is no different. Because of the pornographic, uh, nature of the film, the crass dialogue in this trailer is like a regular Smith script on crack.

I’d like to reenact for you my reactions while watching this:
- Ha!
- Hahaha!
- Oh…ew.
- OK, seriously, gross.
- OMG! Sick!
- No, he did not just say that. Wow, yes, he did.
So, do not watch this at work with the sound turned up and make sure the kids are safely tucked away in another room because while the trailer doesn’t show anything explicit, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks carry on an extremely graphic conversation. According to the IMDB description, “Lifelong platonic friends Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Banks) look to solve their respective cash flow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.” Awww. . .?
The film is set to be released on Halloween. To check out the trailer for yourself,
