Ugly Betty Rundown: Episode Six, “Ugly Berry”

Last week, Betty let her good and decent self help out an old enemy in need by showing her the ropes at Mode. In doing so, she made a monster out of Kimmie, who nabbed a promotion and declared ominously that she felt like her old self again.

So when Ugly Betty opens this week, Kimmie is empowered and all the rage in the office. She rubs Betty’s nose in her success, which makes Betty morph into a green-eyed monster (“She brings out this side of me where I want to scratch her eyes out”). Betty’s biggest complaint to Daniel is that Kimmie refuses to play by the rules — but she soon learns that working with people you dislike is par for the course in grown-up world. That, though, is a world in which Marc and Amanda do not live, and they decide Kimmie must go, which means luring Betty over to the dark side and joining forces against a common enemy. Buzz Book Club: The Conclusion of Sammy’s Hill

Welcome back, Buzz Book Club readers! We’ve reached the end of Sammy’s Hill by Kristin Gore just in time for the end of this election. I hope this fun romp through politics added some levity to what has been an intense month!

Here’s how the Book Club goes if you’re new: Every week I suggest chapters to complete by the next post (which, in this case, was every Friday in October). In these weekly Book Club posts, I posit a few questions to prompt discussion in the comment section.

I’ll fill you in on my November book soon. For now, to discuss the final section of Sammy’s Hill, in which we read from the chapter titled “Breathe in Deep, It’s All Fresh Air” to the end of the book, just

The Office Rundown: Episode Six, “Employee Transfer”

I’ll admit this wasn’t my favorite episode of The Office, but even when it’s lukewarm, this show is still one of the highlights of my TV week. I loved seeing all the Halloween costumes in the beginning and I was hoping it would be a whole Halloween episode, but alas, the plot centered on Michael (and Darryl!) helping Holly move, Dwight royally messing with Andy’s mind and Pam attempting to team up with Jim’s brothers to pull a prank on him.

What did you think of this episode? To read about some of the moments I liked the most,

Grey’s Anatomy Rundown: Episode Six, “Life During Wartime”

This week’s Grey’s Anatomy is intense, and I blame it all on Wilbur and three other pigs (fake pigs — totally fake) in need of some medical intervention. Why can I watch these doctors cut people open all day, but I get emotional over pigs? That’s a good question for Izzie, too, cause that’s where she is in this episode. Meanwhile, Owen Hunt is back, Erica gets “sex glasses,” and Meredith plays with dolls. To chat about it,

Zack and Miri Make a Porno: Shockingly. . . Sweet

Don’t get me wrong: Zack and Miri Make a Porno is extremely disgusting at times. But I expected that. I didn’t expect it to be quite so sweet or touching (in the emotional way, gutter mind). I’m a huge Kevin Smith fan (as you may have noticed from my Comic-Con coverage of him), and this latest product of his dirty, dirty mind does not disappoint. It’s one part sex jokes, one part sweetness and eight parts F-bombs. It’s certainly not for everyone and it’s not going to go down in history as a cinematic tour de force, but it is hilarious and raunchy and oddly sweet.

Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) have been best friends since childhood, and now they room together in a Pittsburgh apartment. They’re not the most ambitious pair, and when they run out of money, they need to come up with some fast cash in order to pay the rent and bills. Thus, they decide to make a porno. Their friend Delaney (Craig Robinson, just as funny as he is on The Office) helps with casting, and soon four more (including real-life ladies from the world of adult entertainment, Traci Lords and Katie Morgan) join the project and the group is on its way to making a pornographic movie. But things get a little complicated (see? I could have used the word “sticky,” but I didn’t because that would have been gross) when these two just-friends decide to have sex together on camera. The main joke seems to be that pesky things like emotions and love get in the way of great, entertaining porn. For more on why I so enjoyed this movie,
