It Girls of the Week: Oscar Nominees

Rooney Mara

In honor of Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar’s series It Girl, each week we celebrate the women who are making headlines. This week, we look at the ladies who snagged a coveted Oscar nomination! Check them out below:

  • Rooney Mara – Nominated for Best Actress for her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, her character is a troubled young woman who is hired as a research assistant by a journalist investigating a decades-old mystery. Just as intense as the movie was = how intense of an actress Rooney turned out to be. And it showed enough to get the attention of the Academy.
  • Michelle Williams – When someone asks you to play Marylin Monroe in a movie, you say, “When do I start?!” Michelle Williams got the honor of portraying the legendary actress in My Week With Marilyn, scoring her the nod. She also just picked up a Golden Globe award for the same role!
  • Melissa McCarthy – Her movie Bridesmaids made us fall in love with puppies, Wilson Phillips and laughing all over again! Melissa is being nominated in the best supporting actress category for her role as the crude sister of the groom.

ClassicThis week’s “It Girls” receive the “Classic” honor for their Hollywood glamour! Check out more info on The It Girl book Classic here! And take the poll below to let us know who you think deserves the title of “Ultimate It Girl of the Week!”

Fashion Don’ts: The Weekend’s Worst

From the Golden Globes, to the Critics’ Choice, to the BAFTAs—with award show season in full swing, celebs are dressing to impress. Some have dazzled, but some have fallen victim to what I call “The Overdo” . . . outfits with potential, ruined by too much of  a good thing. Flip though my gallery of red carpet pics to see for yourself.

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis‘ ballerina days in Black Swan are over. So isn’t it about time she says good-bye to these ballet-inspired shoes?

Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jen, I love white satin sheets too—but please refrain from stitching them to an otherwise chic LBD.

Halle Berry

On anyone else, a dress that attempts to be both short and floor-length all at once would be a total miss. Does Halle Berry‘s flawless figure make this Nina Ricci work?

Michelle Williams

From Dianna Agron‘s blush J. Mendel dress to Carrie Underwood‘s champagne Badgley Mischka, pale gowns were all the rage at the Golden Globes. But is Michelle Williams‘ embroidered, beige Valentino on trend—or just plain tacky? You tell me.

January Jones

This red Versace number certainly made January Jones stand out—but did you really need to see this much of her Golden Globes?

Fashion Dos: The Weekend’s Best

While some stars fell victim to over-styling, others hit the red carpet looking polished and perfect. Flip through my gallery of red carpet winners to meet the starlets who made it work.

Angelina Jolie

Leave it to “Mrs. Pitt” to ooze sex appeal without showing any skin. Is it her structured Versace dress, her dewy makeup, or her date that makes you green with envy?

Leighton Meester

It takes a true fashion star to prevent a Victorian-style gown from looking dowdy. From the sexy slit to the fitted waist, Leighton‘s daring decision to wear a vintage-like dress paid off, no?

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Most starlets rely on fitted frocks to flaunt their figures—but CZJ‘s voluptuous skirt flawlessly cascades over her curves. Aren’t you a fan of her old Hollywood style and her emerald green Monique Lhullier gown?

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria looked so stunning in this sexy, sophisticated Zac Posen dress, you could hear angels singing as she walked the red carpet…or was that the sound of Tony Parker quietly weeping?

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde’s Marchesa gown is bold, extravagant and glitzy—everything that award show fashion ought to be! Over-the-top or oh-so-glamorous? You tell me.

Go Wilde or Stay Home

If Olivia Wilde makes an Oscar appearance this year, the fashion gods will be watching. The beaded silver Gucci gown she rocked on Golden Globe night will be nearly impossible to top—and, frankly, Hollywood’s fashion-impaired are probably wishing TV’s sexiest doc would stay home.

One to Watch

Fresh from her Golden Globe win in this chic Atelier Versace gown, Drew Barrymore may be glowing brighter than Oscar himself on Sunday night. Whether she’s a DO or an OH, NO, SHE DIDN’T, Drew already has what she hoped for this year. So what’s left to wish for?

Have fun, Drew. I’ll be watching.
