Who better to recap each week’s new episode of Gossip Girl than author Cecily von Ziegesar? Find out all her favorite moments in “Raiders of the Lost Art” (Season 5, Episode 22).

Hey People,

I have to say I spent much of last night’s episode demanding — in between slurps of Campari, — “Wait, wait, what did she just say? Where is he going? What’s happening? What’s happening?” I’ve never been good with mysteries. I’m too impatient and I don’t like to be misled. And boy, last night’s episode was jam-packed with red herrings and casually tossed out lines. Maybe I should watch it again. So many subtleties, so little time….

Here are some of my favorite moments (as I remember them):

Best Dress: Serena looked pretty and young and footloose and fancy-free (for a change) in that short black dress with the white flowers all over it. Trés adorable.

Best scheming duo: Chuck and Blair, doing what they do best, without tripping over any of their emotional baggage.

Best Masseur: Dorota oiling and pummeling Diana for information was genius.

Best liar: Nate. His expression never changes, even when he’s lying through his perfect eyebrows.

Prettiest face: There was something tea-cup delicate about Chuck’s face last night—the fact that his entire identity hung in the balance was written all over it. He just needs someone to hold his hand and tell him that he’s loved. We love you Chuck.

Biggest surprise: I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t had a chance to watch yet, but sometimes the best surprises come in ugly packages and are given to us by total Bassholes.

Lingering question: Why oh why is Serena so so so hung up on finding out who Gossip Girl is? Does she want to take her out? Become allies? Torture her? I’d much rather Gossip Girl remain a mystery. Wouldn’t you?

You know you love it,

Who better to recap each week’s new episode of Gossip Girl than author Cecily von Ziegesar? Find out all her favorite moments in “Despicable B” (Season 5, Episode 21).

Hey People,

“The question is not who is my mother, but who is my father.” Oh, the dramatic life of the ever-mournful Chuck Bass. Don’t you wish sometimes that Chuck could just be happy? He needs a vacation from his sadness, don’t you think? He must be seriously bummed to discover that Elizabeth Hurley is not, in fact, his hot mom. He was starting to feel sort of pleased about that I think.

Also in need of a vacation are Lily and Serena. From their bitchiness. Maybe they should get out of town for a while, and go on a mother-daughter cruise. Or maybe they should take up a sport, like horse-back riding. Focus their energies on something nurturing and outdoorsy, instead of ruining other people’s lives. Also, how could they be so blind to Dr. van der Woodsen’s sliminess? I wouldn’t trust that man to deliver a newspaper, let alone safehouse half my assets.

What I liked best about this episode:

Best lines: Blair to Dorota—“I love reading bad things about my friends.”
Lily to Serena (as if she were still 5 years old)—“Put on your best happy face and get ready for the party.”

Best hair: Nate’s.

Worst hair: Dan’s. Please get thee to Nate’s barber.

Best bitch: Serena, for telling Lola that she really didn’t want to get all sisterly at the moment and to just %&^&*^ off. Again, I love it when Serena’s mean. She’s so much fun. We were getting tired of liking her.

Happiest couple: Dan and Blair. This is NOT a compliment. Happy people are BORING. Please liven things up a bit by having horrible drunken fights à la Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Break some plates!

Most glad to see gone: Lily’s angry-all-the-time-rebel-without-a-cause sister. Jail will give her lots of quiet time to write her million dollar memoir.

Most sad to see go: Hopefully next episode is not the last of Diana. I really enjoy watching her in all her super-tight spandex-dressed glory.

And there you have it. My despicably brilliant thoughts. Tune in next week!

You know you love it.

xoxo

Gossip Season 5, Episode 21 “Despicable B” Recap

Despicable B Serena van der Woodsen and Dr. William van der Woodsen

In Gossip Girl Season 5, Episode 21 “Despicable B” (original air date: April 23, 2012), the Diana-as-Chuck’s-mother plot line thickens, Dan is claimed to be more highbrow than Blair in New York Magazine‘s Approval Matrix, and Serena’s dad William confesses to Lola that he is her real dad. Let’s dive deeper into the drama below:

  • Nate is on a mission to find out where Diana is getting her money – He sneaks into her apartment when she isn’t there to find out more details. He finds a red diary in her underwear drawer but just then she walks in and catches him. He plays it off that he was trying to find something for her to wear… when they hook up. Then they do it. And Nate without a shirt = pure amazingness (See hot pics of Chace Crawford here). When she goes to the bathroom after, he grabs the diary and says he’s getting a call from Chuck so he has to go. Turns out the funding is coming from Jack Bass.
  • Speaking of Jack Bass… – Nate keeps calling Elizabeth and asking her about this whole Diana thing. Finally, Elizabeth sends a picture of herself pregnant with Chuck, completely negating the fact that Diana said she couldn’t have kids. Then Chuck realizes something else… he sees a picture of a guy with a tattoo and it’s Jack’s. The guy with the tattoo is his dad… Jack is his dad…!
  • But let’s not forget about Diana’s bigger secret – What exactly is she hiding? The fact that the private investigator can’t find anything on her further than three years ago. And the fact that Gossip Girl keeps texting her that she knows the bigggggg secret…
  • Dan is named more highbrow than Blair – And B sets off to destroy his big night where he’s being honored for being an awesome writer. She dresses up in a fancy gown (even though it’s a casual event) and even steals the mic away from him to announce she’s giving money to a children’s literary charity (anonymously of course…) Dan gets upset with her and helps B realize that she’s lost herself. She gets shaken up and hopes she can be the girl she was before.
  • Serena’s dad is Lola’s dad – Serena finds out Lola is around Lincoln Center through a tip on Gossip Girl. So, she’s hanging around the neighborhood and calls her dad to invite him to a family party to celebrate the fact that the judge rules against Ivy getting any of CeCe’s inheritance. He says he’s out of town and can’t make it. Cut to him talking with Lola at a restaurant. And of course S sees that. Later on Lola tells Nate she just spent the whole morning with her dad. Nate later tells Serena not knowing the harm. Serena puts two and two together and BAM! Realizes that her dad is Lola’s dad. She tells Lily who is ridiculously calm about it all. She tells Serena they can talk about it with everyone after the dinner that night.
  • Carol gets caught – Well, turns out Lily was pretty pissed about Carol having an affair with her man at the time and outs her during the dinner, in front of a reporter. Carol confesses to everything and the fact that she hired Ivy, but what’s anyone gonna do about it, right? Ivy appears with the cops that have come to take Carol away. She and Lily made a deal: if Ivy ratted on Carol, she’d go away free from all fraud charges.
  • Rufus breaks up with Lily – She’s been under a lot of stress with the whole inheritance thing, and yes, she’s been a little snobbish. Rufus is done with that and leaves her. We’re sad about this.
  • Lily gives Ivy a check for a million dollars – For holding up her end of the deal, Lily gives Ivy some money. But Ivy seems pretty genuine when she says she really just wanted to be part of the family. “I could just tear this check up,” she says innocently. Lily brushes her off and sends her on her way. In the elevator, Ivy does tear up the check.

Get The Look For Less: Lola Rhodes in “Salon of the Dead”

On Monday night’s episode of Gossip Girl, “Salon of the Dead“, Dan and Blair hosted a salon to come out in public as a couple. Blair wore a black embellished Marc by Marc Jacobs Rock The Boat dress while Serena crashed the party in a Temperley London Wanda Beaded dress. Diana also showed up to the party uninvited in an Alexander McQueen Cowl Neck dress.

My favorite look of the episode was Lola’s Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Crochet Knit dress which retails for $1,215 that she wore with a Nancy Gonzalez crocodile bag and Zara patent pumps. You can get Lola’s look with Sandro’s Camel Knit dress for $175 and Jessica Simpson’s Francesca pumps for $69.

Feud Alert: Christina Aguilera vs. Justin Bieber

I don’t watch much TV (except for Gossip Girl, of course…), but my assistant told me that on last night’s episode of The Voice, Christina Aguilera could barely muster a smile for guest star Justin Bieber. Apparently Xtina gave JB a stone-cold stare as he went to give her a hug and snarled at him the rest of the show. Not even her pound of makeup and industrial strength Spanx could hold in Chrissy’s contempt for the tiny pop star.

Do you think there’s any good reason for CA to hate Justin? Or is she just searingly jealous of anyone more famous than she is? Watch the clip and tell me your thoughts…XOXO.
