Fashion Don’t: Matthew Morrison

Spotted: Matthew Morrison has a new feather in his cap. Unfortunately I mean that literally–the Glee star was outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show in NYC wearing this lame fedora adorned with a few downy plumes. While I’m sure MM wanted to look city chic, he doesn’t need any accessories to detract from his already flawless face, don’t you agree? XOXO.

It Girls of the Week: TV Upfronts

In honor of Gossip Girl author Cecily von Ziegesar’s series It Girl, each week we celebrate the women who are making headlines. This week, we’re looking at some of the stars who shined at the television upfronts! Check out the TV queens below!

  • Kat Graham – The Vampire Diaries star looked stunning at the CW upfront, wearing a sexy thigh-high split skirt with a black top and studded clutch. She was also one of the few stars that greeted fans outside, making some TVD viewers and supporters of her music career very, very happy.
  • Vanessa Williams – The star of Alloy Entertainment‘s newest series 666 Park Avenue shined on the red carpet at the ABC upfront after-party, but the real buzz is her new show. Her character on the supernatural series looks deliciously devious, and the show is from the same people who brought you Gossip Girl (so, expect lots of juicy drama and plot twists!)
  • Demi Lovato – It was announced this week that Demi will be joining Britney Spears, Simon Cowell, and L.A. Reid on the judges’ panel for Fox’s “The X Factor.” Demi is hopefully going to make a positive comeback after her stint in rehab, and we’re excited to see what kind of criticism she has to offer, considering her whole Seventeen magazine movement “Love is Louder Than The Pressure To Be Perfect.”

On her beauty must-haves: “Let me think about this one. I use Caudalie products and they’ve completely changed my skin. I’m obsessed with Caudalie! I use the Vinoperfect line it’s amazing. My skin’s been completely clear ever since. I used to have breakouts and acne around my mouth and on my cheeks, and it’s even getting rid of my acne scars without having to do laser treatments. It’s amazing, it’s taking away the redness and it’s the best. And then I use Sam Brocato, it’s called Constructor. You can use it as a shampoo or a conditioner, but it basically high in protein and it literally wraps your hair and saves it from all of the blow-drying and the product and the ironing. It’s amazing, it’s completely changed my hair. My hair’s thicker, it’s healthier, it’s been growing quicker, it’s amazing.”

On her favorite decade: “I think it would be…man that’s a tough call! I’m constantly in an inner battle with myself over this discussion. I would probably say be born in the 60s, live in the 70s and 80s. Hit them all! I think being born in the 60s, having the crazy revolutionary period with the hippies and the music, running around naked with flowers in your hair.”

On which show she’d love to guest star: “Breaking Bad! But it’s one of those things where I just want to kind of be an outsider looking in, I don’t want to get too close to my most favorite show on television, it could ruin it a little bit. That’s my most favorite show hands down. I’d love to do Shameless, or this new show Girls, with a really talented cast. What else is out there? You know what I really secretly want to do and be on? Ghost Adventures. I want to go on a walk through a haunted place. They do! They take actors and pro wrestlers and stuff. I should write them or tweet them. I want to so bad! I’ll send them this article!”

Music Spotlight: St. Vincent

In “Crazy, Cupid Love” (Season 5, Episode 15) of Gossip Girl, we attended Nate’s high school throwback party where St. Vincent (aka Annie Erin Clark) played her songs “Cheerleader” and “Cruel” off of the album “Strange Mercy” in the background as all the drama went down.

St. Vincent’s music is a mix of indie rock, pop, and jazz. She plays guitar, bass, organ, and piano, while her music also often features cellos, violins, flutes, clarinets and trumpets. Having grown up in Dallas, Texas, she began playing the guitar when she was 12 and, as a teenager, worked as the tour manager for her uncle’s band Tuck & Patti. She attended Berklee College of Music and then released her debut album “Marry Me” in 2007.

Listen to more of St. Vincent’s music on her MySpace page, and check out the video from the show below! What do you think of the St. Vincent songs that were featured on the episode?

In this week’s episode, we had probably just as much fun as Blair at her bachelorette party (minus the arrest and hangover). The games, the dancing, the MUSIC! This week’s music spotlight goes to LMFAO, the band who’s songs “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I know It” were featured and got the party started.

Check out the videos of the two songs below and be sure to add them to your bachelorette (or basically any other party) playlist!

“Just because we can’t be together doesn’t mean I won’t love you.” – Blair to Chuck in this week’s episode. Did you get chills when she said that? Perhaps it was because of the words, or perhaps because of the music playing in the background.

This week’s music spotlight goes to James Vincent McMorrow, whose song played during the last scene of Monday night’s show. The song was a cover of Chis Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” Check out the video below to hear the song in full. And if you like James’ music, head on over to his MySpace page to hear more.

They say that music sets the mood, and in this week’s episode of Gossip Girl, the plot was very much dictated by the songs playing the background. The disco-themed ep featured music from old-school artists like Donna Summer, Kool and the Gang, and Chic. Joining the lineup were some up-and-comers including All Mankind, a group of Australian guys currently based in the UK.

Their song “Simple Desire” played  during the scene when Max and Charlie/Ivy met for coffee. A great soundtrack for a little manipulation, blackmail and romance gone awry, yes? Check out some of the lyrics from the song below:

“A heart unsatisfied, walks on a wire
From the lover to the loved, blind as a fire
Warning signs are passed aside, fuel to the fire
A heart will come undone, by a simple desire”

Music Spotlight: The Japanese Popstars

Gossip Girl is known for the drama, fashion and, of course, the music! In “The Big Sleep No More,” one of the most buzzed-about songs of the episode was playing in the background during the masked party. The song, “Shells of Silver,” is by The Japanese Popstars, a group of three guys from Northern Ireland who are signed to indie record label Gung-Ho Recordings.

Fun fact: While their main talent is music, the trio also designed their very own brand of Nike trainers called JAPSTARS01.

Check out more of their music here and let us know what you think about this band!

And listen to more featured music from The Big Sleep No More on Spotify:

  • “Haunted Heart” – little hurricane
  • “Black Hills” – Gardens & Villa
  • “Some Boys (feat. Emma)” – Dom
