Gossip Girl Season 5 Episode 24 “The Return of the Ring” Recap

The Return of the Ring Blair Waldorf Chuck Bass

The season 5 finale of Gossip Girl, aka, “The Return of the Ring” brought the much anticipated decision of Blair Waldorf finally choosing between Chuck Bass and Dan Humphrey. Let’s take a look at everything that happened:

In the last episode, Gossip Girl sends a blast of Blair’s diary entry that she got from Serena’s laptop when she was being GG. Now, Gossip Girl is sending them out one by one, hurting everyone in Blair’s life. Blair is furious at Serena but tries to do damage control by going through her diaries and figuring out how to spin everything to make it better.

Meanwhile Serena emails Gossip Girl and tells her she’ll do anything to make it stop. Serena then gets a call from Dan and immediately apologizes about the blasts. Dan doesn’t know what she’s talking about because Blair stole his phone. But now he knows and is upset. He tells B that he needs to know where she stands and she has to tell him that night if she wants to be with him.

A blast goes out with one of Blair’s negative diary entries about Chuck. She’s furious and sends Gossip Girl some scoop on Serena that ultimately gets her fired from her current gig. The girls have words and then Blair kicks Serena out of the apartment. Serena is determined to get back at Blair so she hires one of her minions to help her with her plan to seduce Dan at the Shepherd’s divorce party later that night.

As all of this is happening, Bart Bass is easing back into life in New York. Rufus goes to Bart with annulment papers and asks him to sign them for Lily. Bart does, but Lily finds out Rufus was behind it and ultimately decides to annul her marriage with Rufus.

Bass Industries holds a press conference to announce that Bart is back in the family business. But while he’s talking he basically says he’s the only person running the company now, leaving Chuck to feel that everything he’s worked for has been taken away. Right then, Blair walks in – that’s right, she chose Chuck over Dan – and sees this happen. Chuck and Bart go outside and talk about this, and Bart tells him he’s too obsessed with Blair to run a successful company. Earlier in the show, Bart gave Chuck the engagement ring he bought for B and then left outside of Harry Winston. Apparently it was a test to see if Chuck was over Blair or not. And unfortunately he failed.

Blair and Chuck talk later and she says she’s being honest with him and she wants to be with him. But he’s all mad because of what Bart said. So he basically brushes her off.

Back at the Shepherd divorce party, Serena and Dan are hooking up in a scene that is eerily similar to the one of Nate and Serena at the Shepherd wedding in the first episode of the show. When they’re done, Dan sees that her phone is filming the whole thing and that she was plotting to do this the whole time to hurt Blair. Dan is furious at her, as he should be.

Later, we see Serena on a train leaving New York City. Next to her there is a guy offering her drugs. Looks like S is reverting back to her old self.

Another plot that seems to be thickening is finding out who the real Gossip Girl is. Diana sends Nate surveillance camera footage from the night GG stole Serena’s computer. All we can see is a person walking around in a hoodie.

Also, Lola gets her inheritance from CeCe’s will, but gives it to Ivy. In exchange? Ivy is going to take Lily down.

And finally, Blair goes to Paris with her mom who wants to have B work for her company. Eleanor asks her if there are any loose ends she needs to tie up and Blair says, “Nothing’s holding me back anymore. I know what I want and I’m going to get it.” Then we see Chuck playing poker at a casino and Blair sits down next to him saying that she’s all in (for her relationship with him, that is.) Season 6 should be very interesting!

Exclusive: Cobra Starship’s Gabe Saporta Talks About His Role on Gossip Girl’s Season Finale

Gabe Saporta Cobra Starship Gossip GirlCobra Starship’s Gabe Saporta will be making his Gossip Girl acting debut on Monday’s season finale “The Return of the Ring.” You might remember that the band featured GG star Leighton Meester on their song “Good Girls Go Bad” in 2009 — and that may or may not have played a role in him getting the part.

“The way it went down was so bizarre,” Gabe told us. “I was talking about wanting to try acting, and out of the blue we got a call offering me the part. I honestly don’t know if Leighton helped me get the call or not… if she did – I owe her dinner!”

While Gabe can’t tell us anything about the part (“I have been sworn to secrecy,” he said), he can say that he’s not playing himself.

Gabe, who’s a big fan of Gossip Girl, said he had an amazing time on set. “In between takes, I got to walk around the set and see the entire Waldorf residence. I may or may not have also taken a picture of myself in Blair’s bed,” he said.

So, is Gabe Team Chair or Dair? “I think Blair and Chuck were made for each other,” he said.

Cobra Starship just released a new single from their album Night Shades called #1Nite. “We are shooting a video for it in a couple of weeks,” Gabe said, “but in the meantime you can watch this awesome video Ryland put together of us in Japan — yes, we were the tallest people in the country.”

Are you excited to see Gabe on the show Monday night? Tell us about it in a comment below!

A Collection of the Big Mother/Daughter Fights on Gossip Girl

Mother’s Day is approaching, and you all know what that means: flowers, chocolate, and cards proclaiming your love for your mothers. For the girls of Gossip Girl, however, it probably means yet another fight. As Gossip Girl says, “In every girl’s life, there comes a moment when she realizes that her mother just might be more messed up than she is.”

From all these Upper East Side family power struggles, here are a few that stand out as the biggest and worst moments of mother/daughter drama in the show. What are some other good fights? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Lily and Carol vs. CeCe

Whatever happened to forgive and forget? Well, apparently that wasn’t CeCe Rhodes’ policy, as we discovered when she left her inheritance to Ivy Dickens instead of either of her daughters. Why? Well, we can assume it’s because they didn’t follow her orders. Though this wasn’t technically a ‘fight’, it followed a long line of power plays between mother and daughters, but it’s pretty clear that CeCe got the last say here. No wonder Lily looks so shocked.

Lily vs. CeCe

Before Lily grew up and grew stricter, she was pretty wild—following around bands, dreaming of being a photographer and dating Rufus Humphrey in his Lincoln Hawk days. As we can all guess, however, her mother CeCe wasn’t too happy about that. Love or money? That’s the choice she forced Lily to make, telling her that it was either Rufus or her inheritance.

Blair vs. Eleanor

Remember Blair from Season 1—when she was bulimic and completely stressed over her parents’ divorce? She wanted to have her father over for Thanksgiving dinner, and her mother Eleanor said she invited him and he just ditched, and then spent the rest of the evening clearly favoring Serena, Blair’s ‘best friend’ over Blair herself. Well, as it turned out, Eleanor did not, in fact, invite her ex-husband and Blair’s father, not only ruining Blair’s Thanksgiving but also trying to ruin her relationship with her father and causing her to have a binge session. Nicely done, Eleanor.

Serena vs. Lily

It’s pretty clear that there’s some tension between Lily and her daughter Serena, but Lily took it a little far in episode 23 of season 2, having Serena arrested for “stealing jewelry”, which she never did. Her real crime? Not listening to her mother’s advice about a money scandal. Ouch—isn’t that punishment a little harsh, Lily? Especially considering that you were once a ‘wild child’, too.

The Top 5 Gossip Girl Schemes (So Far!)

Everyone loves a good Gossip Girl scheme, right? Since the whole gang (minus Dan) will be plotting together again in “Raiders of the Lost Art,” we’re nostalgic for some of the past schemes seen on the show.

Besides the recent ones including Georgina Sparks hacking into Gossip Girl’s blog and Ivy Dickens posing as Charlie Rhodes to help Carol get her trust fund unlocked, let’s go way back to the time Lily got Serena’s teacher Ben Donovan fired, Vanessa/Jenny/Juliet drugging S, and the pool party that should have gotten the whole crew in trouble.

Check out the gallery below and tell us what your favorite Gossip Girl scheme has been so far!

Serena and Crew Break Into The Pool

Serena gets a key to the school pool and invites everyone to a party there one night. A guest gets into a fight and gets knocked out. They have to call 911 and they get caught. The school is looking for someone to confess and everyone is looking out for everyone. Nate confesses thinking that it was Blair. Bart Bass later tells Serena that he made some calls on her behalf and made a donation toward the new van der Woodsen-Bass library to get her off the hook.

Lily Gets Ben Donovan Fired

Lily hears that Serena and her teacher Ben are rumored to be together. Lily has Ben charged with transporting a minor across state lines and statutory rape. Although Serena never signed an affidavit confirming that he did so (Lily forged her signature). In order to keep this scandal out of the papers, he is offered a plea bargain which states that he will spend five years in prison.

Vanessa, Jenny, and Juliet Drug Serena

A drugged and distressed Serena wakes up in a motel filled with pills and liquor bottles and calls 911 for help. Turns out Vanessa, Jenny and Juliet (Ben’s sister) drugged her and the plan went too far.

Georgina Hacks Gossip Girl’s Site

After the Chuck and Blair car accident, Gossip Girl goes off the radar. Then, we find out that Georgina has hacked into her account and is posting as GG.

Ivy Dickens Poses as Charlie Rhodes

In order to get her daughter’s trust fund, Carol hires actress Ivy Dickens to pose as Charlie. She infiltrates the Rhodes family and has everyone believing she’s Charlie. When CeCe dies around the same time everyone finds out about her lie, they find out that CeCe has left the family fortune to Ivy (not Charlie — IVY!)

Get The Look For Less: Lola Rhodes in “Salon of the Dead”

On Monday night’s episode of Gossip Girl, “Salon of the Dead“, Dan and Blair hosted a salon to come out in public as a couple. Blair wore a black embellished Marc by Marc Jacobs Rock The Boat dress while Serena crashed the party in a Temperley London Wanda Beaded dress. Diana also showed up to the party uninvited in an Alexander McQueen Cowl Neck dress.

My favorite look of the episode was Lola’s Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Crochet Knit dress which retails for $1,215 that she wore with a Nancy Gonzalez crocodile bag and Zara patent pumps. You can get Lola’s look with Sandro’s Camel Knit dress for $175 and Jessica Simpson’s Francesca pumps for $69.

Feud Alert: Christina Aguilera vs. Justin Bieber

I don’t watch much TV (except for Gossip Girl, of course…), but my assistant told me that on last night’s episode of The Voice, Christina Aguilera could barely muster a smile for guest star Justin Bieber. Apparently Xtina gave JB a stone-cold stare as he went to give her a hug and snarled at him the rest of the show. Not even her pound of makeup and industrial strength Spanx could hold in Chrissy’s contempt for the tiny pop star.

Do you think there’s any good reason for CA to hate Justin? Or is she just searingly jealous of anyone more famous than she is? Watch the clip and tell me your thoughts…XOXO.
